Hope That Doesn’t Disappoint

Romans 5:5 “And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.”

My thoughts: Those who hope for transformed bodies will not be disappointed because they anticipate complete freedom from their sinful nature (their flesh). As the Holy Spirit continues to reveal God’s love to those living inside His will, they receive a glimpse of what they have been hoping for. The glimpse of hope they receive puts to shame any feeling they experienced from the life-eating attempts of feeding the flesh. Our lives are eaten up when we try feeding something that cannot be satisfied. When Jesus returns, the only disappointed people will be men and women who never had their hope in God. They will be sad and in deep regret because they looked for something the world could never offer them. The more we feed our flesh, the more it grows in an insatiable hunger. When we put our hope in Jesus for the first time, the spirit man inside of us is brought to life by God’s Spirit. With our spirit man activated by God’s own Spirit, we can access God and experience His love for us. God’s love for us is revealed in multiple ways. His love is revealed most intimately in the nearness of His presence. In His presence, we experience the fullness of joy. When we deprive ourselves of God’s own presence, we naturally want to revert back to our old patterns and attempt feeding our sinful nature. When we feed our hunger for God with devotion to Him, we encounter His love for us. There is nothing like the love of Jesus revealed to His creation.
