False Doctrines

1 John 4:6 “But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception.”

My thoughts: We must remember that John is talking about false prophets who came into the churches preaching what contradicted God’s Word. This verse isn’t about a battle between us and people outside the church. It is about a battle between those led by the Spirit and those who claim to be led by the Spirit! If this verse was applied universally, there would be no hope of salvation for the nations. It’s not usually the lost people outside the church who don’t want to hear the fullness of
God’s Word, but the lost people in the church. The church today has gone wrong in condemning the lost outside the church and exalting their false doctrines to justify their actions. John called those who preached false doctrines “Antichrists” (1 John 4:3). Some of the biggest Antichrists are preaching behind the pulpits on a Sunday morning. These people are stubborn and unwilling to yield to the Holy Spirit. If they were really led by His Spirit, they wouldn’t be preaching a watered-down, wimpy Gospel message that requires nothing from us! People outside the church don’t need to hear that! You better believe that God is driving out false teachers of the Word from their influential positions and replacing them with men and women after His own heart. God has no favorites. He doesn’t choose randomly, but picks those in complete surrender to Him. He chooses those willing to handle His Word with awe and trembling. Too many church leaders are being deceived by their own selves! They are thoroughly convinced that they have everything figured out and will do whatever is necessary to defend their ideas. They have a skewed view of God and never listen to anyone but themselves. Watch out for these people. Before we can discern what spirit someone else has, we must look to see if we are led by the Holy Spirit. Does what we preach line up with the Word of God?
