Protective Boundaries

Jeremiah 5:22 “Have you no respect for me? Why don’t you tremble in my presence? I, the Lord, define the ocean’s sandy shoreline as an everlasting boundary that the waters cannot cross. The waves may toss and roar, but they can never pass the boundaries I set.”

My thoughts: If God defines the ocean’s sandy shoreline, then why would we let the world define who we are? Aren’t we secure enough in God to know their opinions don’t matter? Don’t  we understand their statements are vanity and don’t have to affect us? The voices we give the highest platform to are the voices that will influence our lives the most. Is what a friend says to us more important than what God says about us? Do we think more about man’s approval or God approval? We show no respect to God when we show more respect to man. If the waves of an ocean cannot cross the boundaries God has set, then we shouldn’t try either. The difference between us and waves is that we have free will. In the protective boundaries of God’s limitless love, we experience freedom. If we step outside of these boundaries, we put ourselves in a dangerous position. The only definition we receive is what the world says about us. Everyone and everything that begins to defines us is in the uncertainty, waywardness, misunderstanding, and wickedness of our world. While there are flaws in this world, there are no flaws in God’s character. We can trust the boundaries He sets for us. It’s our choice to follow the guidelines of His boundaries.
