A Position Of Humility

Genesis 50:20 “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.”

My thoughts: God allowed Joseph to be sold into slavery and rejected by his brothers so Joseph would grow in his faith and reliance in Him. Soon God would increase Joseph’s influence throughout Egypt and give him the role as prime minister over the nation. Maybe God has us in a position that seems insignificant and worthless to test our faithfulness and see if we are ready for something more. Even when Joseph was in a jail cell, he was faithful to God by using the gift he was given from Him to interpret dreams. We will never be able to reach the nations if we don’t reach the people standing right in front of us. God doesn’t ever set us up for failure. We set ourselves up for failure when we choose pride over humility. We set ourselves up for failure when we dream about the multitudes, yet neglect the desperate people in front of us. Joseph understood he wasn’t entitled to receive an influential position (even though he had vivid dreams about it!), but humbly carried out the will of God during his seemingly unfortunate circumstances. Joseph was in the position to save many lives because he was in a position of humility. Let us never forget the vital truth that “God opposes the proud and favors the humble”. (James 4:6)
