Mark 6:3 “Then they scoffed, ‘He’s just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us.’ They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him.”
My thoughts: The people saw Jesus just as a carpenter, so He wasn’t much more than a carpenter to them. Their lack of faith created a faithless environment. As we learn in verse 5 of this chapter, Jesus could perform few miracles among them because of their unbelief. God is asking us all today- “What do you see Me as?” Is our understanding of Him accurate? Have we put limits on God that we don’t even know about? A major problem in many churches today is that they choose to see certain characteristics of Christ and not the entirety of who He is. The Word of God will reveal who He is. If all we see is the Jesus that rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, then we will miss out on the Jesus who roars like a lion and scatters fear. All the attributes of Jesus are perfect, but when we choose to see only a few of them, we limit His perfect power in our lives. God is vast, yet isn’t complicated. He isn’t hiding His character from us. There is nothing about Him that He doesn’t want us to know about. Read the entirety of His Word and you will see Him for who He really is and then have the choice to respond to Him in faith.
