Proverbs 15:8 “The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but He delights in the prayers of the upright.”
My thoughts: When the wicked could be approaching God with humility and willingness to change, they are too busy making “sacrifices” to God so they feel like they are serving the One they are really rejecting. They take the easy way out and don’t have a real passion for God. This reminds me of many church goers who love to raise their hands and lift their voices during worship (as a temporary sacrifice) yet don’t give God everything. They pretend the sin they are living in doesn’t exist and don’t confess to the Lord what has held them back. God delights in the prayers of the upright because the upright have already given their lives and what they are praying is out of sincerity. Our praise on a Sunday morning means nothing to God if He doesn’t mean anything to us. We can’t say God means something to us and still live in the sin His Son came to deliver us from. Sacrifice is not a coverup for sin. God is looking for surrender to His will.
