Revelation 3:1,2 “…I know all the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive- but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is almost dead. I find that your actions do not meet the requirements of my God.”
My thoughts: It’s easy to create a reputation for ourselves that seems to be in pursuit of God. We haven’t been called to hide behind who we think we are, but allow God to expose our weaknesses and strengthen who we are. Living a double identity is a sad and difficult place to be. Creating an image of ourselves that doesn’t reflect who we are (or who God is) will leave us spiritually empty. The church in Sardis couldn’t fool God with their reputation, and neither can we. It is best to be real with God and let Him be real with us. He knows who we are and where we have been. He has a solution to the mess. May we be spiritually awake and never get caught living our lives through a dream that doesn’t exist.
